As it turns out, this isn’t the first time Carson Wentz has had a stress fracture in his back.
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson was peppered by questions from reporters at his Friday news conference regarding the health of franchise quarterback Carson Wentz, and understandably so. After all, the revelation earlier this week that team doctors have discovered a stress fracture in his back was disconcerting to everyone.
After Pederson described the injury as one that has “evolved” as the season went on, that it would take three months to heal but also that he was still “questionable” to play on Sunday night against the Rams, the confusion was not lessened in any way, shape or form.
Wentz worriers/critics have taken to calling him “injury prone” in recent days, noting the serious knee injury he suffered last year, a hairline rib fracture he received during the preseason of his rookie year (an injury for which he missed zero regular season games) and a broken hand in his senior year in college resulting from hitting his hand on a defender’s helmet.
That narrative is not likely to die down anytime soon.
I'm told Carson Wentz also suffered a stress fracture in his back in college, that was in the medical report given to teams at the Combine. Obviously, it had healed & had no impact on his draft status. And having another one years later isn't career-defining. But it's unsettling.

Bowen tweeted that it’s unknown if that stress fracture is in the same part of his back that he injured this time around, and that he doesn’t know exactly when during his college career he suffered that injury.
I don't think he missed games as a starter, except for the wrist fracture. Could have happened before that, or he could have played through it. https://t.co/xaNF8tEjrW

Carson Wentz was not made available to the public today to help shed some light on his injuries. As for his chances of playing on Sunday, the Eagles made official what most everyone assumed would be the case.
Eagles officially list Carson Wentz as "doubtful" for Sunday
