The third year defensive tackle had his best season cut short by another injury.
The beginning of the end could have been identified early for the Arizona Cardinals.
The planned starting offensive line and linebacking corps didn’t even make it a week into training camp before injuries beset the team.
Now, a week after putting the final two expected starters from the starting offensive line on injured reserve, the Cardinals have added a another starter, defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche to IR.
In a lost season, where the only thing left to play for was growth for the future, the Cardinals young defensive tackle will miss the final three games of the season.
Nkemdiche, despite only seeing time in 10 games this year, was second only to Chandler Jones in sacks, with 4.5 on the season, was tied for second with Benson Mayowa in tackles for loss with nine, and third on the team behind both Jones and Mayowa with seven quarterback hits on the season.
Those numbers were put up despite playing only 426 snaps on the season, or 46.5% of the defensive snaps.
The real bad news is that Nkemdiche’s injury will require knee surgery, the team did not disclose the knee or the final extent of the injury.
Good luck and a fast recovery to Nkemdiche.
