The Jets were soaring on Sunday and the Packers defense forced an emergency landing
Normally a final score of 44-38 indicates a great performance from the offense and a not-so-good performance from the defense.
In the Green Bay Packers’ Sunday victory by that score, that was not completely the case.
Green Bay’s defense has been decimated by injuries. They’ve been without their top two defensive linemen plus the secondary seems to be dealing with some kind of nagging injury. It’s a wonder Mike Pettine’s crew has played as well as it has.
Separate comebacks from down both 14 and 15 points don’t just happen without some kind of effort by the defense. They were able to force multiple punts in the fourth quarter after giving up 35 points in the previous three. Under the old coaching regime, the defense would have folded as beat up as it was.
Yet this time it was different. Yes, they got shredded by a rookie quarterback for much of the afternoon but they were able to step up and make stops when it counted. When was the last time you could say that about a Packers defense?
There’s more on the team effort that it took to beat the Jets plus a potential landing spot for former head coach Mike McCarthy in today’s cheese curds.

The offense finally looked like its old self but don’t undersell the effort by a wounded defense. They made the stops they needed to make and helped spur the comebacks as much as the offense.

It’s been a rough season and getting swept by the last place Lions would be the final insult. This isn’t a meaningless game either.
