According to the report, the team is coveting a top 10 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
ESPN’s primary recipient of breaking NFL news, Adam Schefter, has released a report providing details of the Miami Dolphins long-term building approach. According to league sources, the Dolphins plan to:
- Build the trenches in 2019
- Get a quarterback in 2020
- Annihilate the league, reducing them to ash and smithereens. (OK, I added this part)
The Dolphins already are eyeing a top-10 pick in the 2020 draft, according to people familiar with the team’s thinking. ~ Adam Schefter
Oregon’s Justin Herbert, Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa, Georgia’s Jake Fromm, Michigan’s Shea Patterson, and Stanford’s KJ Costello are the most heralded and ballyhooed of the 2020 cohort, although time remains for a dark horse to enter the stakes.
The Denver Broncos currently sit at #10 for the 2019 NFL Draft with a 6-10 record, so it’s quite possible the Dolphins will need to finish with 6 or fewer wins to achieve this end in 2020.
Dwayne Haskins of Ohio State and Kyler Murray of Oklahoma are intriguing prospects in the 2019 class (Drew Lock [Missouri], Easton Stick [North Dakota St.], and Daniel Jones [Duke] in the next rung of QB prospects), but Miami likely finds the timing ominous considering the draft capital it would have to give up to move in front of the New York Giants and Jacksonville Jaguars, and would this hypothetical cost be preventative to the rookie QB for the lack of pieces around him?
I feel for the season ticket holders, but as Dolphins fans, we’ve been through a lot. Perhaps no one is as conditioned for dire streets than us. I’m willing to be patient if it ensures results. There’s just no way of knowing if the results will come, which is the ultimate risk in this whole endeavor.
What do you think y’all: is building the trenches in 2019 and getting the QB in 2020 the right move? Let me know down in the Comments Section!
