Bears sign RT Bobby Massie to four-year contract extension

Bobby Massie has been locked up for the long run.

The Bears have locked up a member of their offensive line for the long haul.

The Chicago Bears have re-signed right tackle Bobby Massie to a four-year contract extension, they announced on Twitter. He was on track to hit the open market as a free agent this offseason.

Massie, 29, has started in 46 games for the Bears in his three seasons with the team. His tenure with the team got off to a bit of a rocky start, but he put together his best season in 2018, playing a key role on an offensive line that allowed just 33 sacks, the eighth-best total in the league.

Before joining the Bears, Massie spent four seasons with the Arizona Cardinals. Chicago signed him to a three-year, $18 million contract in March of 2016.

The seven-year veteran was one of just three Bears starters - excluding special teams players - slated to enter free agency, so this extension leaves just Adrian Amos and Bryce Callahan without deals. Both are talented players in their secondary, but they may not have the cap space to bring both of them back.

EDIT: According to Ian Rapoport, the deal is for more that $8 million a year. The specifics and the guarantee has yet to be announced.
