The first competition for Cody Parkey is here
Following the news of Friday’s kicker workout, word is out that the Bears have signed one of those kickers, Redford Jones, from the University of Tulsa.
Congrats to #TeamESM client @redford_jones19 on signing with the @ChicagoBears !! #BearDown #Bears #NFL

His sports agency broke the news.
Redford kicked collegiately at the University of Tulsa for the Golden Hurricane. The Sun-Times reports that he was 50 of 67 on field goals and 169 of 172 extra points between 2015 and 2017.
Jones has never been on an NFL roster and will be a rookie.
He was signed over higher profile tryout players including former Vikings and Seahawks kicker Blair Walsh and former Cowboys, Jets and Buccaneers kicker Nick Folk.
Cody Parkey, though, is still in Chicago, perhaps only as a formality. When he is cut loose, obviously we’ll bring it to you here.
While the #Bears signed K Redford Jones, the roster status of embattled incumbent kicker Cody Parkey remains unchanged. His salary of $3.5M for 2019 is fully guaranteed, by the way.

The other notable thing about Jones, brought to you by Reddit CFB on Twitter, is that that the double doink isn’t entirely unfamiliar to him:

However, it should be noted that Jones’ went through. Perhaps that is what impressed Ryan Pace and Co.
