Late last season the Raiders may have gotten a find in Denzelle Good. The 6-5, 345-pounder had started 20 games in three seasons for the Colts, including his last game with the team before being strangely waived. The Raiders had a sudden need at guard with injuries to Kelechi Osemele, Gabe Jackson, and Jon Feliciano, and had one fall into their laps.
Good would start the final three games of the season at right guard in place of the injured Gabe Jackson and over the final two games looked like quite good. So, what gives?
What gave was how he was treated by Colts offensive line coach Dave DeGuglielmo, who today was let go by the Colts in what ESPN’s Mike Garafolo calls a “stunner”.
Stunner: The #Colts are letting OL coach Dave DeGuglielmo go, sources say. That line made tremendous leaps this season. But Frank Reich wants his own guy. DeGuglielmo was the only offensive coach Josh McDaniels had hired. Reich is actually recommending him to other coaches.

It becomes a bit less stunning when you circle back to what DeGuglielmo did to Denzelle Good this past season.
Back in October, Good’s brother was murdered in a shooting in North Carolina. Good would leave the team for a week to be with his family. When he returned, DeGuglielmo was pissed. He didn’t think Good should have left the team. He didn’t just show a complete lack of support for Good’s tragedy, but DeGuglielmo was downright furious at Good.
“He wanted players that fight through things and play,” Good told the Athletic back in December.
Then came the meeting in late November when DeGuglielmo made his intentions clear to Good.
“He told me that as long as I was here, I would never play for him again,” Good said. “I would never play another down because he felt disrespected. I wasn’t going to play even though I felt I was as good anyone on the field playing.”
Good then went to Colts GM Chris Ballard and requested his release and it was granted. He was waived on December, the Raiders claimed him the next day and he played on December 9 in Oakland when the team faced the Steelers. He then started the final three games.
What’s “stunning” now might be that Good is employed and the man who tried to ruin him is not. Sometimes good things happen to Good people and what goes around comes around.
