College Statistics
Ximines had a remarkable senior season that included 12 sacks, good enough for fifth in FBS and 58 tackles overall, along with four forced fumbles.
ProFootball Focus adds - “The recipient of the highest overall game grade this season, Ximines was dominant on the edge for the Monarchs this year. His 99.9 overall grade against VMI is just a microcosm for his 2018 season as he finished the year with 55 total QB pressures on just 347 pass-rushes while recording 39 defensive stops.”
Player Overview
The son of Jamaican immigrants, his family moved to Ahoskie, N.C. from New York City when Ximines was in the first grade. Ahoskie’s nickname is “The Only One” because no other town in the world is known by the same name. Which is also a fitting nickname for Ximines, as he is expected to become the first (and only) player in ODU’s short football history to be selected in the NFL Draft.
Ximines was instrumental in one of the biggest upset in college football history, after ODU’s 49-35 victory over Virginia Tech last September. His two sacks and seven tackles were huge in the win.
ODU will frequently align him wide as a 9-technique and Ximines has good burst off the snap. They also stunt him frequently in an effort to confuse the blocking scheme and draw beneficial match ups.

Athletic Traits
Listed by the Monarchs at 6-4/255, Ximines’ Senior Bowl measurements came in smaller, at 6034/241, with 9 3/8” hand size, 33 3/8” arm length, and a 78 1/8” wingspan. He is said to run the 40-yard dash in 4.65 seconds.
Athletically speaking, Ximines will probably come close to Derek Rivers in most measurables.

Strengths
- Productive pass rusher, with 32 career sacks
- Speed rusher, with first step explosion, followed the ability to bend the edge
- Violent hands, showing the ability to club/swim
- Has the foundation traits that you want to be an effective edge rusher
Weaknesses
- Very little of his work was against future pros
- Tackling needs to improve
- Can get washed out against the run
- Minimal experience dropping into coverage
What Others Are Saying
Just last week the godfather of NFL draft coverage, Mel Kiper mocked Ximines going 21st overall.
A Tony Pauline Week 4 Riser, Pauline writes “Ximines entered the season with a second-round grade, which should surprise no one. Ximines plays explosive football and shows speed off the edge as well as the ability to quickly change direction and pursue plays from the back side. He’ll need good predraft workouts to cement a place in the draft’s second day.”
Matt Miller was the first draft analyst to mock him in the first round. Miller says “Ximines is a small-school player, but his traits and production scream first-rounder. He has the burst off the snap and pop in his hands to succeed against NFL pass-blockers.”
Greg Gabriel: Old Dominion EDGE Oshane Ximines a hot name in NFL scouting community.
Gabriel writes Ximines “has very good snap reaction and initial quickness. With his long arms he can keep blockers off his body, and he has the dip and bend to stay low as he is coming off the edge. For a small school guy, he has a variety of moves — he can go wide, bull rush, start outside and come back to the inside, among others. His hand use is good. In pursuit he chases the ball with hustle and has the speed to catch plays from behind. The best comp I can come up with from the 2018 draft is Texas San Antonio’s Marcus Davenport.”
WalterFootball has talked to four different sources that said they had Ximines graded on Day 2. Some thought he could go in the second round and others had him in Round 3. They also said that Ximines does not have the size/speed skill set that Marcus Davenport has.
How He Would Fit On The Redskins
As mention before, the Redskins have some decisions to make at outside linebacker. Preston Smith is a free agent who may not return, Ryan Kerrigan will turn 31 before the start of the regular season, and Ryan Anderson managed two sacks and 18 tackles in his second season.
Draft analysts have already started to compare Ximines to another small school pass rusher drafted just last year, Marcus Davenport. That comparison will likely increase during Senior Bowl practices. However, Davenport is a much larger prospect, who was drafted 14th overall, making that comp at bit rich for me. While it appears likely Ximines will get drafted earlier, I see him as more of a project, similar to Derek Rivers was coming out of Youngstown State.
Ximines has the baseline traits NFL teams look for in a 3-4 OLB, but it will take time to develop those traits. He will likely serve as just a designated pass rusher as a rookie, but in time, could emerge as a full time starter.
