Jason Garrett: Scott Linehan will return as offensive coordinator in 2019, no major changes to staff

Despite what many want, Scott Linehan will return.

The offseason has officially begun for the Dallas Cowboys and with it comes likely change. Things will be different a season from now. The NFL just works that way.

We’ll see some turnover with players as we always do and many figured that we’d see some change within the Cowboys coaching staff. Offensively Dallas struggled throughout the 2018 season and the offseason is the time where you seek to remedy that.

Whatever the Dallas Cowboys were in 2018, Jason Garrett seems fine with it. Appearing on 105.3 The Fan on Monday morning he announced that Scott Linehan would return as the team’s offensive coordinator next season and that there would not be any major changes to the team’s coaching staff.

Scott Linehan didn’t meet with reporters following the team’s playoff loss in Los Angeles and some took this as a sign that he sensed he was on the way out. Jason Garrett could have taken this opportunity on The Fan to be coy and that say decisions had yet to be made, but that was not the case. He was specific in saying that Scott Linehan is coming back.

What do you make of all this?

Update:1:25pm ET

Stephen Jones appeared on 105.3 The Fan on Monday as well. He had this to say which seems to be stressing more patience with decision-making regarding the coaching staff.

Update: 4:00pm ET

During his Monday press conference Jason Garrett said he “didn’t know” how he answered the question about Scott Linehan in the morning. This seemed more in line with what Stephen Jones said.

Shortly after it was reported that regardless of what and when he said whatever he did, Jason Garrett does expect Scott Linehan back in 2019. Make of that what you will.
