Can the Patriots beat the odds?
The New England Patriots opened as 3-point underdogs to the Kansas City Chiefs for the AFC Championship Game, according to oddsmaker BetDSI.
This is the first time that Tom Brady has been considered an underdog in 67 games, per BetDSI’s release, with the last time being a 2-point underdog for a week 2 road game against the Buffalo Bills in 2015. The Patriots won that game 40-32. The Patriots were also an underdog in the season opener of 2016 when Brady was suspended, but they defeated the Arizona Cardinals 23-21.
Other oddsmakers didn’t have the Patriots as underdogs to the Bills, with Pro Football Reference noting that the last time Brady was an underdog was in 2014 on the road against the Green Bay Packers. The Patirots were underdogs four times in 2014, going 3-1.
The Chiefs are considered a powerhouse this year and easily dispatched the Indianapolis Colts in the divisional round. Do you think the Patriots will beat the Chiefs next week?
