Saturday Slop: Redskins news and Senior Bowl reports of the day

A look at some of the top stories and news from the Senior Bowl

Super Bowl bound Sean McVay got away, but tough to fault the Redskins | ESPN

McVay has been appreciative of the opportunity, and freedom, that Gruden gave him. And even if the Redskins had wanted McVay to take over, getting his first head-coaching job in that kind of manner would have made any coach wonder about his job security.

Coaching change, Redskins lose Wes Phillips, bring in Bryan Angelichio as TE coach | NBC Sports

This marks the first change to the Redskins offensive coaching staff. There have been other changes to the staff, but on the defensive side. The team also had a change at special teams coordinator.

Redskins Kyle Smith says this is the time for Redskins scouts to get ‘locked and loaded’ | NBC Sports

Smith said he pays a lot of attention to the FCS and smaller division players in Mobile to see how they compete against Power 5 school players. It’s an opportunity to judge their talent, but also their mentality.

Redskins don’t have a great history with the 15th pick in the draft | NBC Sports

While no player drafted by the Redskins at No. 15 provided a significant impact, there’s one player that was drafted at No. 15 that impacted the Redskins franchise for years. That would be defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth, who the Tennessee Titans drafted at No. 15 in 2002. Haynesworth signed a seven-year, $100 million contract with the Redskins in 2009 with $41 million guaranteed. We all know how this story ended, as Haynesworth only appeared in 20 games for the Redskins, totaling just 6.5 sacks over the two-year span.

Senior Bowl day 3 practice report | Fanspeak.com

McLaurin arguably had the best all-around practice of the three receivers. He has really good deep speed, and I really liked how he adjusted to the ball on a couple of throws.

Senior Bowl interview with WR Andy Isabella | Fanspeak.com

It was an awesome experience just going up against teams like that it’s a whole different feel. The game is played faster. I think I get more excited, more pumped up to play in games like that. … I think I still have a chip on my shoulder because being from a small school we still get beat – it’s not like we were winning a lot. I think that was one of my biggest regrets at UMass, that I couldn’t get the team to come together and win. But I love the feel of playing in a big game.
