SB Nation released its newest 2019 NFL Mock Draft.
With the 2019 Senior Bowl coming and going, while we wait for the 2019 NFL Combine, the questions and Mock Drafts will rage on.
One of the biggest questions being asked now is not about whether or not Nick Bosa is the best player in the class, it is whether or not Nick Bosa fits with the Arizona Cardinals.
That’s what Dan Kadar of SB Nation’s Mock the Draft asked in his newest 2019 NFL Mock Draft.
1. Arizona Cardinals: Nick Bosa, DE, Ohio State
Should Bosa really be the only option for the Cardinals with the first overall pick in the draft? Considering the team will play more of a 3-4 next season under new defensive coordinator Vance Joseph, maybe not.
Chandler Jones obviously has one spot on the outside. There’s also a possibility former first-round pick Haason Reddick could get shifted back outside to his more natural position. None of this even touches on the fact that Bosa is a natural 4-3 end. Bosa remains the pick, but maybe there should be more discussion here about Alabama nose tackle Quinnen Williams.
I always have a problem with this thought process.
You are the worst team in the NFL, with a defense that was trending down since 2015, and a nearly completely turned over roster, only Patrick Peterson remains under contract from that defense.
If your scheme is not flexible enough to fit a talent like Bosa, who Kadar has ranked as the top player in the draft, then that’s a bad scheme.
When the player alternative is Williams and he’s not picked until four, that’s an interesting sell, at least in my opinion. Now, Kadar hasn’t released his Big Board, so maybe when it is all said and done Quinnen Williams will be his best player, but he’s called Bosa the top player thus far, so it would make more sense to keep Bosa there until you are moving Bosa down the draft board.
It is also why Kadar gives all the reasoning and still has Bosa as the top pick in the draft.
