Yesterday we opened the approval poll series with Amy Adams Strunk. You can go over there and vote in that one if you haven’t yet. This morning we are looking at Titans general manager Jon Robinson.
This one is a little bit tricker than AAS in my opinion. There is no doubt Robinson has improved the overall quality of this roster since he got here. He inherited one of the worst rosters in the NFL and has made the team competitive.
With that being said, there are some places where he hasn’t been good enough. His first draft he had 3 second round picks. That’s a great way to build a young nucleus that is going to set your franchise up for a 5-8 year run of success. Those 3 picks netted Kevin Dodd (no longer in the NFL), Austin Johnson (not any good), and Derrick Henry (looks like he might be what they build this offense around next season). That’s not enough.
Now, with THAT being said, the Titans were able to go 9-7 in a year where they lost their best offensive player in the first game of the season, didn’t have their starting right tackle healthy for most of the year, and lost two of their best defensive players down the stretch. That means there is depth on the roster. Robinson gets the credit for that.
He also gets credit for hiring Mike Vrabel, who I think proved this season he has the skill set to be a really good NFL coach. Vrabel navigated one of the most bizarre seasons that I have ever seen and ended with a winning record.
I think you have to vote “approve” here, but I can understand a counter argument.
