Wild Card: Colts vs Texans Game Thread

The 2018 NFL Playoffs begin today without the Jets for the eighth straight season. The chances of an average NFL team missing the playoffs eight years in a row are just about 1 in 2500, so the Jets have achieved a highly unlikely level of ineptitude. Nonetheless the playoffs go on without our team. Today in the first game of a Wild Card Saturday doubleheader the Indianapolis Colts travel south to take on the Houston Texans.

The 10-6 Indianapolis Colts come into tonight’s game on a wildly improbable playoff run. This team was 1-5 after six games, coming off a devastating loss to the New York Jets and all but buried in the playoff race. Since that low point in the season the Colts have reeled off nine wins in their last 10 games, including a 24-21 win against the Texans in Houston.

Standing in the way of the Colts continuing their improbable run are the Houston Texans, AFC South champions. The 11-5 Texans had an improbable run of their own. The Texans began the season with three straight losses before reeling off nine straight wins and putting themselves in the conversation for the first overall seed in the AFC playoffs, a stunning turnaround. The Texans then cooled off to end the season, losing two of their last four games, but still claimed the AFC South title.

We start the playoffs with an AFC South grudge match. Winner moves on to the divisional round, loser goes home for the long off season. It’s the Colts and the Texans, Andrew Luck and Deshaun Watson putting on a show to start off the NFL playoffs.

Enjoy the game everybody.
