Another offensive tackle. Another Davenport replacement.
Hey, look another mock draft. For those of you who have forgotten football still exists, these are the things you read to spurn the thoughts ruminating in your head. This mock draft is by Houston’s own Lance Zierlein. It’s his first one. He has the Texans taking a left tackle.
The same one Dan Kadar mocked Houston to take. Zierlein had the following to say about the Texans adding Greg Little (OT—Ole Miss):
The Texans are desperate for a left tackle and a starting cornerback, but it’s easier to find cornerbacks outside the first round than it is to find starting left tackles.
I don’t know anything about this class. What LZ is saying may be true about it being easier to find quality corners outside the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft. I still feel better about Houston’s offensive line than most, but I do want additional competition at the position, and the Texans need to direct their efforts to upgrade the secondary.
What’s also interesting are the other players selected in this mock who could be in the mix for Houston. Lance has offensive tackles Jawaan Taylor going 11th, Jonah Williams 14th, and Andre Dillard 16th. He has defensive backs Greedy Williams as the first DB off the board at 13th, DeAndre Baker 29th, and Byron Murphy going 32nd.
If you are looking to watch on future Texans prospects, these lads are a good place to start.
