AFC East Roundup: biggest offseason question

What are teams facing heading into the offseason?

The off-season has officially begun after the New England Patriots added another Super Bowl to their trophy case. However, the good news is that we can start looking forward to and talking about next season. That begins this week on the AFC East Roundup where we break down the biggest question that each team should likely be asking heading into the 2019 season.

Buffalo Bills: How will they spend the money?

The Bills will head into free agency with the fourth-most cap space in the league and being one of five teams to have over $70,000,000 to use. The question becomes how will they spend it, because there are gaps on both sides of the ball. The offensive line needs to be improved to give Josh Allen more time in his sophomore season. He also needs a true number-one receiver to throw the ball to. This question also relates to the draft because the way they spend their money will determine their strategy heading into the draft. It is a lot of money for sure, but Brandon Beane has to be careful to spend it wisely or else it will be wasted.

New York Jets: Will they respond to Adam Gase?

The Jets hired Gase as their head coach after he was fired by Miami so it’s up to him to change this team. Gase was hit or miss in Miami, missing the playoffs this season after making it the season before. He received criticism in Miami for his culture, trading Jarvis Landry and Jay Ajayi—the two best players on the team. If the Jets are willing to buy in, this team could have a turnaround and Sam Darnold will have a successful sophomore campaign.

Miami Dolphins: Who will be their quarterback?

The quarterback situation in Miami will be one to monitor all season because of the confusion over who will be under center. There have been multiple reports stating the team will part ways with Ryan Tannehill, which means the starting spot will be up for grabs. To go along with those reports, it has also been said that the team is hopeful to grab one of the top quarterbacks in the 2020 draft, but to do so will involve losing a lot of games next season. Does that mean Brock Osweiler will take over the job or will the team go after a veteran like Joe Flacco to control the offense?

New England Patriots: Will Father Time show himself?

Everything is great for the Pats right now after that Super Bowl title, but things may change depending on how the off-season goes. The team is not getting any younger, especially the core people involved in this dynasty run. Rob Gronkowski is reportedly going to consider retirement once again after battling through nagging injuries during the 2018 season. Tom Brady isn’t getting any younger and neither is Bill Belichick. It would certainly shake up the team if even one of them decided to call it a career, but only time will tell.
