This is my last mock until after the combine, but I hope you enjoy something that actually allows you to see the full draft.
2019 NFL Draft
1st Round (1st Overall Selection)
Nick Bosa - Outside Linebacker
Ohio State - Junior
6’4’’, 264 Pounds
I recently wrote an article explaining how Nick Bosa should be the first player taken. Maybe I’m wrong, we will see.
2nd Round (33rd Overall Selection)
Andre Dillard - Offensive Tackle
Washington State - Redshirt Senior
6’5’’, 310 Pounds
At the top of the second round, I’m wondering what sounds more appealing to Arizona Cardinals fans, because this is who was available at 33:
Andre Dillard, a nimble bear who is typically balanced in both the run and pass. A fantastic slide protector that flies to the second level. Great hands that attach to your pads like super glue, and great lateral ability.
Chris Lindstrom, one of the best performers at the Senior Bowl, he just has the perfect weight distribution when having to chase block and is my top guard for this draft.
Byron Murphy, a great outside corner who really fits what the Cardinals defense would like in the back end, but because it’s not a glaring hole, I didn’t see any reason taking Byron.
3rd Round (65th Overall Selection)
Chuma Edoga - Offensive Tackle
Southern California - Senior
6’4’’, 295 Pounds
All week at the Senior Bowl, I saw Chuma Edoga go from a relative unknown to a possible day-2 selection. How? By showing off some very good balance and speed against some of the best defensive lineman in this draft. Not going to lie, Edoga surprised me when he stonewalled Zach Allen and Jaylon Ferguson (possible first rounders) in individual workouts.
His size worries me, at 6’4’’, a tad under 300 pounds, Chuma Edoga might not have the type of body to play fast defensive ends off the edge. You couldn’t tell him that at Senior Bowl, it’s just a worry at the next level. Some would invite the thought of switching Edoga to guard, but I’d tell that person to watch the Senior Bowl. A day one starter at right tackle.
4th Round (103rd Overall Selection)
Lil’Jordan Humphrey - Wide Receiver
Texas - Junior
6’4’’, 225 Pounds
There will be risers and fallers at the combine, and one of the potential fallers is Lil’Jordan Humphrey, one of the most exciting receivers in this draft. I saw a lot of L.J. Humphrey last year, I would say his best traits involve him tracking the ball very well at a higher point than most corners.
His problems arise in separation. Humphrey’s needs to do a better job controlling the line of scrimmage and fighting with his hands to create that separation. I love his competitive fire though.
5th Round (139th Overall Selection)
Jamal Dean - Cornerback
Auburn - Redshirt Junior
6’2’’, 208 Pounds
Jamal Dean was a physical corner who endured good receivers in the SEC, and that forced a lot of weaknesses to arise for him. His strengths obviously in his ability to jam, and his willingness to tackle in the box. He’s just slow a tad in man coverage, but with his physical acumen, there’s no reason Dean couldn’t be a competent number two corner.
6th Round (174th Overall Selection)
Bronson Kaufusi - Defensive End
Brigham Young - Redshirt Senior
6’9’’, 275 Pounds
It’s not typical to find a 6’9’’ behemoth in the sixth round, but we did. Bronson Kaufusi played like a dominating rush end at the beginning of the year, putting the defense on his back. Injuries beset him, and Kaufusi didn’t see the field in December. Still a very good one gap penetrator who uses his hands effectively and seems to have a good football IQ.
6th Round (179th Overall Selection from Tampa Bay Buccaneers)
Michael Deiter - Offensive Guard
Wisconsin - Redshirt Senior
6’6’’, 310 Pounds
Someone who we will see slide down the draft board will be Michael Deiter. He went into the Senior Bowl with high expectations but was out of position a majority of the practices and was tossed around like a rag doll. Maybe at 6’6’’ 300+ pounds, he needs to get bigger, add some weight, and in Arizona, he can do that.
6th Round (207th Overall Selection via Compensatory)
Reggie White Jr. - Wide Receiver
Monmouth - Redshirt Senior
6’3’’, 210 Pounds
Another small school receiver, but not one who lacks talent. He had 84 receptions, 1133 yards, and 11 touchdowns. No one will question his catching ability, he is someone who can lay out for the ball and can make Odell-like catches. He needs to learn pro routes/concepts to be a contributor.
7th Round (248th Overall Selection via Compensatory)
Austin Hoyt - Offensive Tackle
Brigham Young - Redshirt Senior
6’8’’, 315 Pounds
Another offensive lineman who can slide left to right tackle, because he played both in college. Hoyt competed again Bronson Kaufusi in practice, so that breeds familiarity. If you need a swing this late, Hoyt isn’t a bad option. He has great run technique.
7th Round (249th Overall Selection via Compensatory)
Logan Parker - Tight End
Southern Utah - Redshirt Senior
6’4’’, 251 Pounds
Not a lot of production, but Logan Parker did his part as both a blocker and pass-catcher at SUU. I see him as someone not afraid to inline block and adds special teams’ value.
7th Round (254th Overall Selection via Compensatory)
Boogie Roberts - Defensive Tackle
San Jose State - Redshirt Senior
6’2’’, 289 Pounds
It’s fun when you get to the end of the draft, and just pick up someone who probably wouldn’t make it to our team via being undrafted. Boogie Roberts is my choice for Mr. Irrelevant. He was steady, had 47 total tackles, 8 TFLs, and a sack from the tackle position. 3-4 end.
