27 NFL veterans who could be cut candidates in the 2019 offseason | SB Nation

Justin Houston, OLB, Chiefs

Houston is still a crushing pass rusher, but the Chiefs aren’t flush with cash and will have to figure out what to do with Dee Ford this offseason. Cutting the four-time Pro Bowler would give Kansas City an extra $14 million to spend — but can it afford to shed any big-time playmakers from the defense that proved to be its Achilles’ heel in 2018?

Denver Broncos turn to Joe Flacco for QB help, trading fourth-round pick to Baltimore | Kansas City Star

In nine games last year, Flacco threw for 2,464 yards, completing 232 of 379 attempts for 12 touchdowns and six interceptions.

While the division-rival Chiefs saw their first-year starter — Patrick Mahomes — rack up 50 regular-season touchdowns against 12 interceptions, Keenum’s 15 interceptions with the Broncos last season were tied for second-most in the NFL, and he averaged a paltry 6.6 yards per attempt to Mahomes’ 8.8.

LB Tanoh Kpassagnon. He appears unlikely to fulfill the potential the Chiefs believed he had when they drafted him in the second round in 2017. Last year, the Chiefs felt compelled to trade up to draft Breeland Speaks, who plays the same position. Chiefs owner Clark Hunt takes over as NFL finance committee chairman | Kansas City Star

Hunt, who has been on the financial committee for seven years, was previously the chairman of the NFL’s international committee.

There are seven other owners on the league’s financial committee, including New England’s Robert Kraft and Atlanta’s Arthur Blank.

4 lessons the 2018 NFL season taught us, including the secret formula for winning a Super Bowl | SB Nation

Look at the young talent at quarterback in the NFL still under their rookie contract. Of course, you’ve got reigning MVP Patrick Mahomes and Offensive Rookie of the Year runner-up Baker Mayfield. How about the NFC Championship winner Jared Goff or the would-be 2017 MVP in Carson Wentz? There’s also Deshaun Watson, Mitchell Trubisky, Dak Prescott, Sam Darnold, Josh Allen, and so on.

Chargers Won’t Exercise Contract Option for Corey Liuget | Chargers.com

“He was our Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee in 2018 for a reason and you won’t find a player who made a bigger contribution in the community than Corey. While we did not exercise the 2019 option in Corey’s contract and he will now become a free agent on March 13, the door is certainly not closed for a possible return in the future.”

Joe Flacco heading to Broncos in trade as Ravens shake up offseason QB market | CBS Sports

This is a shocking trade, there are no two ways about it. The Broncos were thought to be players in the free agent market or perhaps even the draft, with Case Keenum serving as a mild-to-major disappointment in his only season with Denver. He didn’t put up numbers like he did in Minnesota, but surely the Broncos didn’t think he would?

Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. Posts Cryptic Tweet After Offseason Trade Prediction | Sports Illustrated

NFL insider Jay Glazer made a bold prediction on Wednesday that Odell Beckham Jr. would be traded this offseason. It appears that prediction may have caught Beckham’s attention.

Beckham, 26, posted a cryptic tweet from his account following Glazer’s prediction.

NFL reportedly bars prospect Jaylon Ferguson from combine in latest failed effort to legislate violence | Yahoo! Sports

The NFL has rescinded its invitation to Louisiana Tech pass rusher Jaylon Ferguson after he was flagged on his background check for a violent offense, NFL Network reports. Ferguson, the NCAA’s all-time sack leader, was convicted of simple battery during his freshman year for a fight at a McDonald’s in addition to a separate public intoxication charge while he was in college, according to the report. The battery conviction falls under a new league policy barring players from the combine “if a background check reveals a conviction of a felony or misdemeanor involving violence.”

Which NFL team will draft Kyler Murray? Oddsmakers make their best guess | Yahoo! Sports

BetOnline has one favorite far ahead of everyone else for Murray …

Dolphins +150

It makes sense. The Dolphins reportedly don’t want to move forward with Ryan Tannehill. The Miami media believes they’ll be tanking for a shot at Tua Tagovailoa in 2020, but what if Murray is a possibility now? They’d have to consider it, if they think Murray has the ability to be a top-level starter in the NFL.

Jaguars ink kicker Josh Lambo to 4-year extension | ESPN

Lambo is the only kicker in Jaguars history to post back-to-back seasons with a field goal percentage of at least 90. He made 19 of 20 field goal attempts in 2017 and 19 of 21 attempts in 2018, and he has made six of his seven attempts of 50 yards or longer with the Jaguars.

Report: Denver Broncos trading for Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco

The trade means the Ravens are comfortable in moving forward with Lamar Jackson as their starter. That was to be expected, as Flacco was benched late in the year and Jackson started in the playoffs.

More importantly for Chiefs fans, it means that Kansas City will in all likelihood be seeing a Joe Flacco vs. Patrick Mahomes matchup twice next year. As explained by 9News’ Mike Klis (who is in the know), Case Keenum is out as Denver’s starting quarterback.

Two Kansas City Chiefs land on CBS Sports’ top 30 free agents list

On Tuesday, CBS Sports’ Pete Prisco published his list of the top 30 NFL players set to hit the free agent market. Only two Chiefs made it into the article, and it may not be exactly who you think.
