Bengals hiring Mississippi State’s Tem Lukabu, per report

The last major coaching vacancy for the Bengals has been filled.

Former Bengals linebackers coach Jim Haslett was one of the first assistants fired before Zac Taylor was reportedly to become their head coach. They finally appeared to have found his replacement.

The Bengals are hiring Mississippi State’s linebackers coach Tem Lukabu to the same position, per FootballScoop.

Gene’s Page writer Steve Robertson confirmed earlier today that Lukabu will be leaving the school to return to the NFL.

Lukabu spent one year with Mississippi State after working as the San Francisco 49ers’ defensive quality control coach from 2016-2017. Prior to that, he was the defensive line coach at Florida International in 2015 and the outside linebackers coach for his alma mater Colgate in 2014.

2012 was when Lukabu got his first NFL coaching gig as a defensive assistant for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for two seasons. Before then, he was the outside linebackers coach for Rutgers from 2010-2011. This followed a two year stint with Rhode Island as their linebackers coach and his first coaching job as the director of player personnel for Rutgers.

Lukabu never played in the NFL, but was a three-year starter for Colgate as a linebacker. In his last two seasons in 2002 and 2003, he was the Patriot League’s defensive player of the year. He is originally from Kinshasa, Congo.

The Bengals have plenty of work to do at the linebacker position, and now they have a coach in Lukabu to oversee it all.
