Bengals hiring Vanderbilt’s Nick Eason, per report

The Bengals find their next defensive line coach in the college ranks.

The Cincinnati Bengals have found their next defensive line coach.

According to NFL Network reporter Tom Pelissero, the team will hire Vanderbilt Commodores defensive line coach Nick Eason.

Eason was actually hired by Vanderbilt this offseason, so he really comes to Cincinnati with his last job being as a defensive assistant at Austin Peay. He primarily worked with linebackers for the 2018 season.

Eason has plenty of NFL coaching experience as he was the Titans’ defensive line coach for three seasons (2014-2017) and also was the Cleveland Browns’ assistant defensive line coach in 2013.

That came after a 10-year playing career as a defensive tackle with the Denver Broncos, Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers and Arizona Cardinals. He finished his career with 128 tackles and seven sacks.

Eason replaces Jacob Burney, who opted to retire this offseason. It appeared Zac Taylor was ready to keep Burney on board, but now, Taylor has his d-line coach for 2019.
