Bengals want to interview Saints’ Aaron Glenn, per report

The Bengals are trying to get a defensive coordinator before the Scouting Combine takes place.

With Todd Grantham now off the table, the Bengals are turning their focus back to NFL assistants to become the team’s next defensive coordinator.

The Bengals have already interviewed Rams secondary coach Aubrey Pleasant. Now, they’ll interview Saints secondary coach Aaron Glenn, according to ESPN reporter Josina Anderson.

Glenn helped develop what was a strong Saints secondary in 2017, which featured Defensive Rookie of the Year Marshon Lattimore. However, his unit took a big step back this past season, as New Orleans finished 29th in passing defense.

After a long playing career from 1994-2008, Glenn first broke into the coaching rankings with the Browns as an assistant defensive backs coach from 2014–2015. He then became the Saints’ secondary coach in 2016 and has held that title ever since.

His first season was one to forget, as the Saints finished dead last in passing defense and had just nine interceptions, which was tied for the fifth-fewest in the league.

In 2017, the Saints grabbed 20 picks, the third-most in the NFL, and finished 15th in passing defense.

The Saints grabbed 12 interceptions this past season, tied with the Bengals for the 18th-most.

I’d expect the Bengals to kick the tires on another candidate at some point, though they need to have someone hired by Feb. 26, the start of the NFL Scouting Combine.
