For the fourth time during his still-young NFL career, Dallas Cowboys pass rusher Randy Gregory has been suspended for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. The latest suspension is of the indefinite variety for the troubled defensive end. In confirming the ban on Tuesday, the Cowboys showed some real outward frustration with Gregory. It started with this tweet. Announcing the number of suspensions is not par for the course for a team in a press release. But it’s the release titled, “NFL suspends Randy Gregory again,” that tells us an even larger story. “Randy Gregory has been suspended, yet again, by the NFL,” the release started. “Gregory, who was suspended for 30 games in 2016 and 2017, was able to get through the entire 2018 season on the active roster.” Ouch. Wonder if the writing is on the wall here. Teams in the Cowboys’ situation have done everything to help troubled players overcome their off-field demons. But at some point, enough is enough.
