Everything you need for the big game.
Super Bowl 53 is almost here, as the Los Angeles Rams will face the New England Patriots down in Atlanta.
Both teams enter the game coming off wild wins in their respective conference title games, each going into overtime. The Rams enter the big game as one of the more controversial participants in NFL history. That’s because they beat the Saints in the NFC title game thanks to a terrible no-call late in regulation. It was as bad of a missed call as you see in any sport at any level, and it’s been a major talking point leading up to the big game.
The good news for Bengals fans is they’ll get to watch future head coach Zac Taylor and franchise great Andrew Whitworth playing for the Lombardi Trophy. Whitworth deserves this as much as any player in the NFL, and it would also be nice to see Taylor bring a Super Bowl ring with him to the Queen City.
Representing the AFC once again will be the Patriots, who defeated Chiefs in an epic AFC title game that saw one of the wildest fourth-quarter shootouts in recent memory. But it was Tom Brady and New England who got the ball first in overtime, and they went down the field before former Bengals running back Rex Burkhead ran in the game-winning touchdown.
Super Bowl 53 is a rematch of Super Bowl 36 in 2002, when New England defeated the then-St. Louis Rams, 20-17.
Sunday’s game will see Patriots quarterback Tom Brady vie for a record sixth championship ring, something no other player in the history of the NFL has achieved. Hall of Famer Charles Haley is tied with Brady with five rings.
