When free agency hits the names that will be associated with the Arizona Cardinals will undoubtedly be offensive line based.
However, one name to keep an eye on on the other side of the ball is Brandon Marshall, formerly of the Denver Broncos.
Marshall will become a free agent once the Broncos decide to opt out of his contract.
That means, one of the bigger needs for the Arizona Cardinals over the last four seasons, despite three top 50 picks used on the linebacker position, could be addressed by the Cardinals.
Marshall has an intimate knowledge of the Joseph defense, but also has seen a drop off in production and play each of the last two seasons.
From Pro Football Focus:
"After earning 74.8-plus overall grades in each of the three seasons following his rookie campaign (2014-16), Marshall dropped quite a bit in our grading system. He earned just a 61.8 overall grade across his 910 defensive snaps in 2017 and another low mark (64.2) in his injury-plagued 2018 season."
Marshall has been a good player in the NFL and has a strong understanding of the Joseph defense…
However, he presents a similar backstory to some problematic signings in the Cardinals past.
Older, downside of the career players coming off underwhelming and injured seasons.
However, there’s no doubting how good he’s been before the last two seasons.
If it’s a short contract, it could help the Cardinals get off on the right foot in the Kliff Kingsbury era.
