Notes: Lions players respond to Bears WR Taylor Gabriel’s trash talk

It’s on.

It all started with a report saying that the Detroit Lions would take on the Chicago Bears on Thanksgiving for the second straight season. Bears writer Aaron Leming responded with a frustrated “Again?” on Twitter, apparently not thrilled with the redundant matchup.

That’s when Chicago Bears wide receiver made this much bigger news. Responding to Fleming, Gabriel tweeted “Easy W don’t worry” in a now-deleted tweet.

The slight was picked up by several news sources—including our expertly-written version here—and the news spread that Gabriel was dissing the Lions.

Unsurprisingly, word got around to Lions players, and they were not happy. First, there was Quandre Diggs, who can be seen in the photo from this story breaking up a pass to Gabriel.

Now, maybe Diggs wasn’t talking about Gabriel, maybe he was. But he certainly seemed to be clapping back.

Lions cornerback Darius Slay wasn’t nearly as aggressive, but was certainly more direct:

Thanksgiving is going to be fun.

  • The NFC North has some really impressive defensive tackles, and the Lions are right there in the mix (Da’Shawn Hand just missed the cut at 87.3):

  • It seems extremely unlikely that Alabama defensive tackle Quinnen Williams falls to the Lions in the draft, but in case you want to daydream, check out this fantastic breakdown of his play:

  • Bad news for a couple of NFL Draft prospects. First, NCAA sack master Jaylon Ferguson was uninvited to the Combine after a background check revealed he was charged with misdemeanor battery four years ago. Additionally, first-round prospect DT Jeffrey Simmons tore his ACL during a workout.

  • Darius Slay’s daughter already has his signature move down:
