As many in the 2019 NFL Draft class descend upon Indianapolis for the 2019 NFL Combine, we begin to dissect what the Arizona Cardinals may do or who they may be looking at or what position may be important.
One thing we can decipher usually is not who they are interested in, but instead which positional groups they are looking into.
According to Walter Football, the Arizona Cardinals have already met with a number of prospects, nearly all playing the same positions:
Corey Ballentine, CB, Washburn (SR)
Kris Boyd, CB, Texas (SR)
Tim Harris, CB, Virginia (EW)
Jordan Brailford, DE, Oklahoma State (EW)
Gerri Green, OLB, Mississippi State (SR)
Jalen Jelks, DE/3-4OLB/OLB, Oregon (SR)
Daylon Mack, DT/NT, Texas A&M (EW)
Anthony Nelson, DE/3-4DE, Iowa (SR)
Bobby Okereke, ILB, Stanford (SR)
Dax Raymond, TE, Utah State (SR)
C.J. Conrad, TE, Kentucky (EW)
Tyree St. Louis, OT, Miami (EW)
Dennis Daley, OT, South Carolina (SR)
Lamont Gaillard, G, Georgia (EW)
Three cornerbacks, six along the defensive front seven, two tight ends and three offensive linemen.
Most are considered late day three or priority free agents, which makes sense as the Cardinals usually begin to prioritize UDFA early in the process and even use their top 30 visits for a number of those players.
That’s why, as we see the names trickle out over the next several days of who the Arizona Cardinals are meeting with, ask yourself...
Are they a prospect you’ve seen in mock drafts?
Are they strong on special teams?
What does the Cardinals depth chart look like at the positions?
When you look at the initial visit list, it shows that they are looking at cornerbacks with special teams savvy, a number of front seven, althoug Jenks, Mack and Nelson are all day two type guys, and of course the positions with the gaping holes.
The other thing is... We have no idea who or what Kliff Kingsbury and Vance Joseph will be looking for, so as we move forward, take notice of athletic profiles, scheme backgroun, etc and be ready moving forward.
