Four defensive backs were selected as part of the Hall of Fame Class of 2019.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame announced the newest crop of inductees on Saturday night.
The class was defensive back-heavy, as four of the seven inductees played cornerback or safety.
AFC North standout safety Ed Reed was selected after his first year of eligibility. The ball-hawk leads the NFL in interception return yardage and ended his career with a win in Super Bowl XLVII.
Cornerback Champ Bailey and tight end Tony Gonzalez round out the group of first-ballot inductees. Bailey was a 12-time Pro Bowler and a three-time first team All-Pro selection, as well a member of the All-Decade team in the 2000s. Gonzalez is arguably the best tight end of all time, as he is second all-time in receptions.
Cornerback Ty Law also joined the 2019 class as a three-time Super Bowl Champion with the Patriots.
Third time’s the charm for Kevin Mawae, as the third-time finalist and 16-year veteran center is finally getting his bust.
The Senior inductee was Johnny Robinson, safety for the Dallas Texans/Kansas City Chiefs. Robinson lead both the AFL and the NFL in interceptions in two different seasons, grabbing 10 both times. He retired in third place in the all-time interceptions list in 1971.
Gil Brandt will also be enshrined as a 29-year executive for the Dallas Cowboys. Under his tenure as the VP of Player Personnel, the Cowboys won Super Bowls VI and XII.
The final member of the Class of 2019 is Pat Bowlen, owner of the Denver Broncos since 1984. Under his ownership, Denver has won three Lombardi Trophies.
