Ravens Salary Cap Update - Brian McFarland
RESERVE/FUTURE CONTRACTS
The Ravens have signed 10 players to Reserve/Future contracts for 2019. Eight of those players – G Kofi Amichia, T Randin Crecelius, DB Robertson Daniel, RB Tyler Ervin, FB Christopher Ezeala, DB Bennett Jackson, LB Alvin Jones, TE Nick Keizer – finished the 2018 season on the Ravens’ Practice Squad. The two other players – LB Ejuan Price and LB Matthew Thomas – were signed from outside of the Ravens organization.
2018 SALARY CAP CARRYOVER
Barring any last minute, unforeseen adjustments, the Ravens will carryover $4,649,956 in used 2018 Cap space onto the 2019 Cap. This will increase the team’s adjusted Cap and create a little more useable Cap space for 2019.
SALARY CAP UPDATE
With the Cap estimated to be in the $187-191M range, the Ravens presently (before the PPE is officially added in and before incentive adjustments, RFA and ERFA tenders) have between $25.6M and $30.6M in available Cap space.
Matthew Thomas is a player to monitor in training camp. A former 5-star recruit from Florida State, Thomas has rare speed, agility and explosiveness for an inside linebacker. He is capable of carving out a role as a coverage ‘backer and special teams contributor.

#27 C.J. Mosley
Mosley has been the definition of solid throughout his career. He’s played 5,160 snaps including the playoffs in his career and only his 2015 season had a grade below 70.0. He’s also been incredibly sound as a tackler, with single-digit misses each of the last two seasons.
#32 Za’Darius Smith
Smith wasn’t even on the radar before a breakout year saw him tally 60 pressures in the regular season. He has some versatility to play outside and inside that will be coveted, but it’s worth questioning whether 2018 was a fluke or sign of things to come.
#48 John Brown
The deep threat ability that saw Brown rack up 370 deep yards and over 1,000 total receiving yards in 2015 didn’t suddenly go away. Brown just hasn’t had a quarterback that could find him since. His seven deep receptions in 2018 were 28th-most in the league.
Mosley is sandwiched behind Jordan Hicks (#17) and Anthony Barr (#33) at linebacker. Za’Darius’ market could be depressed by a deep class of edge rushers. Eight pass rushers are listed ahead of Smith - DeMarcus Lawrence, Trey Flowers, Brandon Graham, Jadeveon Clowney, Frank Clark, Dee Ford, Shaquil Barrett and Preston Smith.
Players who leveled up for all 32 NFL teams in 2018 season - Jamison Hensley
Cornerback Marlon Humphrey. The 2017 first-round pick went from being a solid rookie to one of the top players on the NFL’s top-ranked defense. According to Pro Football Focus, Humphrey’s 52.5 percent catch rate allowed was the seventh best in the league this season, and his 22.5 percent forced incompletion rate was third best. “He’s the best corner we have. He’s playing to that level,” Ravens defensive coordinator Wink Martindale said toward the end of the season. “I think he’s just going to continue to grow the more he studies the tape, the more he studies himself, the more he studies the game plan -- which he’s done all season.” Next season, Humphrey has a chance to become Baltimore’s first Pro Bowl cornerback since 2006.
Some analysts believe cornerback has leapfrogged pass rusher to become the most consequential defensive position.
