Report: Broncos have informed Domata Peko that they will not re-sign him

Broncos will seek out a younger nose tackle option.

According to 9NEWS Denver’s Mike Klis, the Denver Broncos have informed impending free agent nose tackle Domata Peko that they do not plan on re-signing him prior to the start of free agency. Klis says that they plan on to seek out a younger replacement to be their nose tackle in newly hired Head Coach Vic Fangio’s defense

Per Klis, the Broncos and Peko never entered into contract talks so it appears that they decided on this move rather quickly. However, Klis didn’t completely shut the door on a possible reunion. If the Broncos are unable to find an option at nose tackle, they could revisit re-signing Peko, but that was labeled as a “slight possibility” by Klis.

I would expect the Broncos to bring in a true nose tackle option via free agency and/or the draft this offseason. Some names to watch in free agency who fit the “true nose tackle” mold are former first-round picks Malcom Brown and Danny Shelton as well as re-signing Zach Kerr who the Broncos have expressed interest in re-signing per Klis. If they do not sign a starter during free agency, I would expect one to be drafted during the first two days of the 2019 NFL Draft.

With Fangio giving input on his wants and needs on the Broncos roster, I would expect a serious investment at that position this offseason. Whether that be via free agency, the draft, or both.
