Robert Kraft situation aside, we are on to 2019

This Robert Kraft situation gets weirder by the day, but as a fan, all I can do is focus on the 2019 season.

I can’t quite wrap my brain around the situation that encircles the New England Patriots owner, Robert Kraft. It’s weird. It’s bizarre. It’s unsettling. Did I mention it’s weird and bizarre?

When the news about Kraft broke on Friday morning, I was enjoying the last day of my vacation in Las Vegas. I was strolling through the casino at Treasure Island — the hotel I was staying at — getting ready for a long walk down the Las Vegas strip. As I was getting ready to head outside into a brisk, chilly morning, I looked down at my phone and saw the notification about Kraft soliciting prostitution in places being investigated for sex trafficking. I was stunned.

My phone immediately started flooding with text messages, and Twitter and Facebook notifications, from friends asking me what the heck was going on. I didn’t answer any of them, simply because I had no idea. I had the same response for every single message: “I’m in Vegas, I’ll deal with it next week.” I didn’t know what to think about it then, and I don’t know what to think about it now.

The only thing I do know is this: as a Patriots fan, I’m ready for the 2019 season. I’m ready to watch Tom Brady, Bill Belichick and the rest of the team defend their Super Bowl championship. I’m ready to plug into football every Sunday, Monday and Thursday. I want to take a trip back to New England and attend my first Patriots game at Gillette Stadium in nearly five years.

As for Kraft, the law will take its course, and I’m ready to accept whatever news will come of it. He’s been a fantastic owner over the past 25 years, simply the best you could ask for in professional sports. However, there’s something very fishy about this entire situation, and he’s going to have to pay whatever price gets thrown at him. At this point, it’s very difficult to gauge exactly what that will be.

But nevertheless, when September finally rolls around, the Patriots will be playing football again. Brady, at age 42, will once again take the field and try to make a run at his seventh Super Bowl ring. That’s what I want to spend my time focusing on.

As a fan, I will do my best to put this Robert Kraft situation to the side — at least for the time being — and just focus on football. As Belichick would say, we are on to 2019.
