Bills tender DE Eddie Yarbrough, decline to tender P Matt Darr, per report

The Bills are making moves ahead of free agency

The Buffalo Bills have tagged Exclusive Rights Free Agent Eddie Yarbough, according to a report from ESPN’s Mike Rodak. The move had been expected and means Yarbrough will be with Buffalo for at least the 2019 offseason.

At the same time, Buffalo has chosen not to tender their other ERFA, punter Matt Darr, according to Rodak. Darr was not good for Buffalo punting or holding and will move on.

The tender means Yarbrough will make the league minimum for the 2019 season, payable as a salary with no signing bonuses. He will enter the offseason as a rotational piece in Buffalo’s defensive end stable, but he did lose time to newcomer Mike Love as the season wore on. He played 30% of the team’s defensive snaps in 2018, but played just seven snaps each in Weeks 15 and 16 before being a healthy scratch in Week 17.

As soon as the Bills signed Darr, the bottom fell out of their special teams. Kicker Stephen Hauschka’s field goal percentage tanked and Darr averaged just 40 yards per punt. With Corey Bojorquez and Cory Carter coming back from injury, Buffalo has two good options already under contract for 2019.
