Clemson’s impressive defensive line group was the featured attraction
When the NFL gathered in Clemson, South Carolina on Thursday morning, it wasn’t to take in the South Carolina Botanical Garden or Bob Campbell Geology Museum. It was to watch the prospects from the Clemson Tigers’ National Championship team work out.
Clemson has emerged as one of the two best teams in the nation over the last four years, routinely playing Alabama in the final game of the College Football Play-offs. Predictably, all 32 teams were well represented and there will be particular interest on the defensive side of the ball.
And a day after New York Giants head coach Pat Shurmur scouted Kyler Murray and the Oklahoma offensive linemen at the Oklahoma pro day, and OL coach Hal Hunter scouted the Wisconsin pro day, defensive coordinator James Bettcher was on hand to watch the Clemson prospects work out.

While they have a quintet of NFL-caliber defenders up front, the truly remarkable and special part of that line was that while several members were draft-eligible in 2018, they all elected to stay together and try to win a championship after coming up just short in the 2017 season. That defensive line was the foundation of a great defense and powered the Tigers to their championship.
The four showed off their solidarity by wearing Power Rangers headbands. And in case it matters for evaluation purposes, Clelin Ferrell wore a green ranger headband, Christian Wilkins wore white, Dexter Lawrence wore pink, and Austin Bryant wore red.

Unfortunately Clelin Ferrell, their best prospect, didn’t work out due to an injury.
Down at Clemson Pro Day today, DE Clelin Ferrell will not be working out due to a toe issue that came up earlier this week, per source. Something to monitor during the pre-draft lead up.

Despite injuring his quad while running the 40 at the NFL Scouting combine, DT Dexter Lawrence worked out with his linemates.
