Colts Prospect Interviews: Ohio WR Papi White

Our next prospect interview is with Ohio Wide Receiver Papi White. White is a 5’9” 177 pound receiver who is very versatile and quick.

Career Stats: 161 catches for 2,620 yards and 19 touchdowns. 91 rushes for 470 yards and 6 touchdowns.

White interviewed exclusively with Stampede Blue to talk about his Ohio recruitment, playing with Nathan Rourke, and who his NFL role model is.

Zach Hicks: Why did you decide to attend Ohio University?

Papi White: I just gained a relationship with the coaches and Coach (Tim) Albin specifically just reminded me of my high school coach and I felt like I’d get along with him. Coach Solich is some sort of a legend at Ohio University and he also reminded me of my head coach so I felt like those reasons led to me going there.

ZH: Most receivers like you who go to smaller schools don’t have he benefit of playing with high profile QBs but that wasn’t the case for you. What was it like playing with a guy like Nathan Rourke?

PW: It was great honestly. We would just depend on each other and he’s just a hardworking dude who made me want to work harder as well. So, I just felt like it was a great fit.

ZH: When you first came to Ohio, you played some receiver and some running back. What was it like having to play between two different positions?

PW: Honestly, it was just... I don’t know I felt like I was just playing football so I didn’t really think about it too much.

ZH: What was the toughest part of transitioning to receiver full time later in your career?

PW: I would say learning the routes.. like all the route tree, just working on the routes in the route tree that I couldn’t really run. Just progressing in that area.

ZH: I also noticed you played some special teams at Ohio. Is that an area you can contribute in right away in the NFL?

PW: Yeah if they let me. I would definitely say yeah.

ZH: You made some acrobatic catches in college for a player your size and really showed an ability to high point passes. Would you say that is an underrated part of your game with your size?

PW: I honestly don’t really know how to answer that (laughs). I just react to what I see and go after the ball when I see it (laughs).

ZH: What aspect of your game do you need to improve upon most?

PW: I would say working on my routes, sharpening them up a bit. I would also say blocking. I ain’t too good at blocking and I feel like I could get better at that.

ZH: What is the best trait that you are going to bring to an NFL team?

PW: I’m just a hardworking player and I just feel like I have confidence in myself and I’m going to get the job done.

ZH: Which NFL player do you compare yourself most to?

PW: I try to compare myself to a lot of different receivers like even guys who are taller than me or bigger than me. I just like to take something, just one thing at least, from each wide receiver in the league. My role model though has actually been Tavon Austin.

ZH: You didn’t receive a combine invite but what can we expect from you at your Pro Day?

PW: Honestly I feel like I’ve been working hard over these past few months and I feel like my numbers have gotten a lot better since I’ve been working here.

ZH: Final question for you, why should my team draft Papi White come draft time?

PW: A hardworking dude. Never lets up and just a team player.
