The QB Scho Show #17!
There are horrible decisions and there are catastrophic decisions. If you had to choose between Napoleon Bonaparte, Ned Stark, and New York Giants’ general manager Dave Gettleman; who is the worst decision-maker of the bunch? Who had the worst plan? That’s the question Mark Schofield asked me to kick off The QB Show Show #17.
Additionally, is there a scenario that involves Gettleman coming out clean in all this mess? In terms of his next set of moves, what is the worst-case scenario and what would actually lift the metaphorical Statue of Liberty from the sand? That’s the other question Mark posed and it’s a good one. My take?
Worst-Case: The Giants trade up to #2 overall and select Duke quarterback Daniel Jones.
Best Case: They land a pass rusher and offensive tackle in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft and land the top quarterback in the 2020 or 2021 NFL Draft.
The problem for the Giants is there best case won’t pay off until years later, around about the time they’ll have to pay Saquon Barkley. He’ll also have accumulated a mountain of touches by that time; wasting valuable tread on his tires. Perhaps the best move is for Josh Rosen as they re-stock? Is he even available?
Either way the theme for the criticism surrounding Gettleman is the lack of a coherent plan. It seems to change on a whim and by the time it gets fixed, will he find himself on the outside looking in like former Cleveland Browns general manager Sashi Brown?
UPDATE: Gettleman is an Eagles’ sleeper cell?
Beyond the baffling decisions of Gettleman, we covered a range of other topics on the show, which include:
- The Philadelphia Eagles applying a second-round tender to restricted free agent Nate Sudfeld.
- The Eagles have signed former Pittsburgh Steelers’ linebacker LJ Fort, and I don’t care what the commenters that haven’t watched him have to say, I love the pick-up.
- Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray’s Pro Day that doesn’t really matter.
- Buffalo quarterback Tyree Jackson’s Pro Day and why he might have a fatal flaw in his mechanics due to his excessive 6’7” height.
