One among a few good looking slot corners on the market was Bradley Roby. He wasn’t expected back with the Broncos and their signing of Kareem Jackson pretty cemented that. Now the team that let Kareem Jackson leave as a free agent is signing Roby.
Roby reportedly turned down deals from the Steelers and 49ers to take a one-year deal with the Texans in an attempt to do essentially what Tyrann Mathieu did — take a one-year prove it deal in the hopes of cashing in next offseason. The safety just got paid on a long term deal from the Chiefs.
It’s possible the Raiders got out of the slot corner market when they signed Lamarcus Joyner. The defensive back has played slot corner and free safety and could be an ideal nickel corner with Karl Joseph and Erik Harris at safety. Certainly seems more plausible than fielding the 5-8 Joyner alongside the 5-10 (on his tip toes) Karl Joseph.
Regardless of where they play Joyner, there are still several slot corners and safeties on the market even with Roby and Jackson trading places.
Slot corners include Ronald Darby, Bryce Callahan, and Daqueze Dennard.
Safeties include Earl Thomas, Clayton Geathers, and Ha Ha Clinton-Dix.
We are still in just the second day of the free agent negotiating period, with free agency officially opening in 24 hours at 1pm Pacific time Wednesday.
