Chucky’s got jokes.
During the season ticket fan summit a couple weeks ago, Detroit Lions head coach Matt Patricia and general manager Bob Quinn joked about the team and their eligibility to be on HBO’s training camp documentary series “Hard Knocks.”
“I think Jon Gruden is an excellent choice for that show,” Patricia said. “I think the Oakland Raiders and everything they’ve got going on right now would be fantastic viewing for everybody to watch.”
On Thursday at the NFL Combine, Raiders head coach Jon Gruden got his revenge.
“Appreciate Matt Patricia, my friend, offering that up to me,” Gruden said according to NBC Bay Area’s Jennifer Lee Chan. “That beard that Patricia has, he’s going to be a star. I mean he’s going to be one of the future television stars. I’d be surprised if Monday Night Football doesn’t put him upstairs in the future.”
Both the Raiders and the Lions are two of five teams that are required to do the show if the NFL chooses them. Additionally, the 49ers, Giants and Washington all can’t say no if asked to do the show. 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan has already said he doesn’t want to do it, while the Giants and Washington haven’t really come out and said anything yet.
It seems unlikely the Lions would be the choice for the show, given the wackiness of the Raiders, the high-profile team in the Giants or the Jimmy Garoppolo show in San Francisco, but someone is going to get the last laugh here.
