Panthers sign Jared Norris to 2-year contract, per report

Norris spent the 2018 season on injured reserve with a toe injury.

The Carolina Panthers have signed linebacker Jared Norris to a two-year contract, according to a report from NFL insider Ian Rapoport.

According to the team’s official bio of Norris, he spent the majority of the 2018 season on injured reserve after suffering a toe injury early in the year. In 2017, he played 11 games—mostly on special teams—with the Panthers before landing on injured reserve with a calf injury. He was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2016 by Carolina and has mostly been used on special teams during his tenure in Carolina.

While the full terms of the contract are unknown at this time, it’s unlikely there’s a lot of money involved in this transaction. Considering the signing bonus is only $150k according to Rapoport’s tweet, the contract is probably in the vicinity of $1 million per year, which isn’t a ton of cap space to use on a solid special teams player.

We’ll update this story when the details of the contract have been released.
