Redskins Daily Slop: Combine updates

A look at the top Redskins stories of the day

News and Notes from Saturday of the NFL Combine | Redskins.com

t’s not often two guys from the same school that play the same position are ranked “1-2” in their positional draft rankings, but that is the case for former Iowa tight-ends T.J Hockenson, and Noah Fant. The latter led the group in the 40, posting the fastest time of all tight-ends at 4.50. Fant also displayed his crisp route running, and his ability to turn up field and accelerate quickly, a trait Redskins tight ends Jordan Reed, and Vernon Davis both possess.

NFL Network’s Bucky Brooks: ‘It’s time for the Redskins to take a QB’ | Redskins.com

“Dwayne Haskins and Kyler Murray are the two ones that I say slam-dunks when it comes to quarterback,” Brooks said. “After that Drew Lock and Daniel Jones, the conversation is split and mixed on them. With Drew Lock, you’re talking about a talented player a guy who has that Matt Stafford like talent, but he’s not as polished and he hasn’t been as productive throughout his career.

Antonio Brown or not, the Redskins look poised for an agressive offseason | NBC Washington

That doesn’t definitively mean the ‘Skins won’t move up for another passer. While word is the team doesn’t want to give up a first-round pick for Brown, that could be different for a rookie quarterback. The organization might look differently at a swap of first-round picks to go get a QB, along with a player or later round pick. Allen seemed quite disinterested in trading up when he spoke in Indy, but almost every NFL executive says they won’t trade up. Then every year multiple NFL teams trade up for a quarterback.

Scouting Combine Winners and Losers from Day 2 | NFL.com

Drew Lock, QB, Missouri: The Matthew Stafford-like passer continues to win the postseason process. Lock ran faster than anticipated (4.69-second 40-yard dash) and dazzled scouts with his A+ arm talent. He throws deep with ease and flashes the ability to take a little steam off his passes for increased accuracy. With his outstanding upside, Lock could sneak into the conversation as a top-10 pick despite his inconsistent production at Missouri.

Trading for Antonio Brown doesn’t make sense for the Redskins | Fanspeak.com

Brown would obviously help the Redskins competitiveness a bit, but really unless they get a quarterback who can give them at least above average production, it’s tough to think the Redskins can make the playoffs. Maybe drafting a rookie QB this year could put them in a position to be a playoff team in 2020, but that is far from a guarantee.
