Redskins have a deal basically in place to trade for Case Keenum, source says. The Broncos part with Keenum after arranging to trade for Joe Flacco and he comes to Washington as part of a QB mix with Colt McCoy. Trade can't become official until next Wednesday.
— MarkMaske (@MarkMaske) March 7, 2019
Can confirm this is the deal.#Redskins have acquired Case Keenum. He will make the $3.5m from Washington aka that's his cap number.
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) March 7, 2019
Will also get $4m from Denver and the teams will exchange picks in the 2020 draft. https://t.co/OXKBL5Zh0k
$3.5 mil makes this a routine offseason move. If Keenum doesn’t work out, no harm, no foul. https://t.co/pFWX2sIM8m

Redskins to acquire Case Keenum https://t.co/iwFl22uGf2
— Matthew Paras (@Matthew_Paras) March 7, 2019
FWIW: A reminder that though trades for Joe Flacco, Case Keenum & potentially soon Antonio Brown have been agreed to, they can’t become officially official until the 2019 league year begins at 4PM EST, March 13th.

Case Keenum is reportedly becoming a Redskin, but Josh Rosen could still fit in D.C., too: https://t.co/PAbCXgipzS pic.twitter.com/5BIqFaBHTG
— NBC Sports Redskins (@NBCSRedskins) March 8, 2019
Early take on the Case Keenum trade:
— michael phillips (@michaelpRTD) March 7, 2019
-Good for Broncos, who save $3 mil
-Good for Redskins, who get 2019 insurance
-Good for Keenum, who has a path to playing
Sorry, I'll work on my negativity.https://t.co/uT0xkPdOo3
So if all of the terms are what they appear to be: Here's the cap hits for #Redskins now.
— Chris Russell (@Russellmania621) March 7, 2019
Case Keenum: $3.5 M (full guarantee)
Colt McCoy: $3.375 M (2 M full. guaranteed).
Alex Smith: $20.4 M (100% fully guaranteed)
Total: $27.275 against 2019 Cap. #Redskins #NFL https://t.co/pOOnwNHjMU
I refuse to believe this is all the #Redskins do at the position. All the reports WSH would be big players for a splash move. Check Forbes list, Dan Snyder is not going to try luring fans back with Keenum and McCoy.
— Paul Conner (@P_ConnerJr) March 7, 2019
Unless, they just let Jay Gruden burn and start over.
Regardless of how this plays out, the Redskins can still get Rosen if they're so motivated. His cap number is so low it's basically nonexistent. https://t.co/b3oYKSq6vY
— michael phillips (@michaelpRTD) March 7, 2019
Answered this while talking to @chaddukes. @ChrisLingebach put together a story, including that audio here: https://t.co/hQVt06x7RM
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) March 7, 2019
I would say it's required listening if you care about this story. https://t.co/TOmAA7QERX
Case Keenum may not be the most exciting name on the quarterback market, but the #Redskins got him cheap. Here's the details on the compensation. https://t.co/upD6sLwPsA
— Riggo's Rag (@RiggosRag) March 7, 2019
I'm missing the outrage on trading for a veteran QB. The Skins now have 2 cheap vets (McCoy, Keenum) who will be UFAs. They can still draft/trade for a younger QB. We're 4 months removed from them pulling Josh Johnson off a hoops court in Oakland and employing Mark Sanchez.
— Brian McNally (@bmcnally14) March 7, 2019
FYI: Neither Keenum nor McCoy is signed beyond this season. Do not assume anything about other quarterbacks they may or may not get, whether that means Rosen or in the draft. Insurance if they can't get another guy they like.
— John Keim (@john_keim) March 7, 2019
I know everyone hates everything, but there is no confusion about two things in Ashburn:
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) March 7, 2019
1) They did not just trade for their future QB. They added depth/competition.
2) They need a lot of football players at a lot of positions. That influences every decision they make.
Ultimately the Case Keenum trade comes down to this for the #Redskins
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) March 7, 2019
They acquired a QB with experience to add depth to their room while giving up next to nothing and taking no options off the table.
I happen to think that is smart. You can disagree, but that's what happened.
Trading for Keenum doesn't rule out a future deal for Rosen. The opportunity to get Keenum without competing for him in FA came up. They jumped. Rosen still out there. Picks still available to get him. He'd still be cheap.
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) March 7, 2019
Can't afford to wait on AZ and be left with nothing.
This makes a lot of sense and is a very reasonable move for the Redskins https://t.co/BWgaMsRIOW
— Steve Shoup (@Steveospeak) March 7, 2019
Keenum plays with the same mentality that Jay Gruden likes in Colt McCoy. He's gonna sling it. Two sides to that coin, he'll create some big plays, will also turn it over. https://t.co/3PCh906FNC
— Mark Bullock (@MarkBullockNFL) March 7, 2019
After some thinking time, it's not the worst move in the world. Relatively cheap for another QB that could compete with McCoy. The kicker to this is that it shouldn't prevent them from making another move at the QB spot. If this was their "big splash" then it's a bad move https://t.co/PsfdbObzCs
— Mark Bullock (@MarkBullockNFL) March 7, 2019
I think this is a very good move for the #Redskins as @ABC7Erin & @NickAshooh are talking about right now on @1067theFan & @Radiodotcom because:
— Chris Russell (@Russellmania621) March 8, 2019
1. Keenum has mobility, can run RPO and can throw deep when called.
2. Has plenty of starting & some playoff experience.
3. Cheap.
Love the Redskins trade for Keenum. Got him for nothing and he can play. Not a Pro Bowler, but steady enough. Now first can solve another need. If they can still get Rosen for a third, do it.
— Rick Snider (@Snide_Remarks) March 8, 2019
On the Redskins reportedly trading for Case Keenum:
— Grant Paulsen (@granthpaulsen) March 8, 2019
- I think Colt McCoy could beat him out. 6 years in a system and similar guys.
- Trading a 6th and 7th is nothing. Biggest part of deal was $3.5M in cap space.
- They should still try to trade for Rosen. Doubt they will.
Again, my initial reaction has little to do with Case Keenum and more to do with the plan.
— Paul Conner (@P_ConnerJr) March 8, 2019
I give a boost to any QB working with Jay Gruden and his system. That's just me. And Keenum isn't afraid to wing it around the field.
If the standpoint of the Redskins not being done looking for a starting QB is true (Rosen, etc.), then I now see the rationale in this. Keenum is a better backup than Colt McCoy. As starters, Keenum and McCoy would be too similar.
— Jake Russell (@_JakeRussell) March 8, 2019
The Redskins are getting a QB from a team with a great defense that went 6-10 last year for a swap of late round picks. And plan to have him compete for a starting job.
— Mike Tanier (@MikeTanier) March 7, 2019
Who’s ready for a QB battle in Richmond?? Keenum v McCoy. Hard Knocks??? #Redskins
— George Wallace (@GWallaceWTOP) March 7, 2019
They are still in on Rosen. Breathe lol god this is gonna be a fun offseason lol
— Jsteelz (@jsteelznskins) March 7, 2019
While the end result is great, I will say promising a QB a chance to start in order to get him to accept a lower contract just to trade him for who you really want is the kind of shady business decision Bruce Allen would make.
— Paul Conner (@P_ConnerJr) March 8, 2019
But business is cutthroat. https://t.co/IASeJUzGH7
QB purgatory is real and some teams are ok with mediocrity. https://t.co/G30n7oIW7M
— NFL Philosophy (@NFLosophy) March 8, 2019
Actually Denver cut in half what they would've had to pay him if they cut him and got an asset (albeit a minor one) for a guy they would've cut.
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) March 8, 2019
This is a minor win for anyone. Nothing more, but nobody lost. https://t.co/GJ3x9gPwza
The Keenum trade, basically, amounts to one more reason to mot give up more than a 3 for Rosen. Thats about it
— Jason La Canfora (@JasonLaCanfora) March 8, 2019
Case Keenum's arrival doesn't entirely eliminate the possibility of a Josh Rosen trade. That move can still happen: https://t.co/PAbCXgipzS pic.twitter.com/gSmvbpHBn6
— NBC Sports Redskins (@NBCSRedskins) March 8, 2019
I have this coming in a pros and cons piece, but the Redskins once swapped sixth rounders to get Kevin Hogan. Getting a potential starter in Keenum for swapping a sixth for a seventh is nothing.
— Matthew Paras (@Matthew_Paras) March 8, 2019
I've asked several people about Case Keenum tonight. Their answers invariably start with something like "assuming everything is perfect around him..."
— Grant Paulsen (@granthpaulsen) March 8, 2019
So it is simple. The Redskins just need to have a perfect situation around him. Ready. Break.
If Case Keenum starts for the #Redskins next season, he'll become the 10th different quarterback since 2010 to start a game for Washington.
— Tarik El-Bashir (@Tarik_ElBashir) March 8, 2019
I promise you don’t need to give any credit to John Elway for a nearly worthless 2020 pick swap while still having to pay Keenum $4 million to go away because of the bad contract Elway awarded him.
— Gregg Rosenthal (@greggrosenthal) March 7, 2019
I really liked this reaction from J.P. Finlay, but still can’t post his tweets ‘cause he continues to block me:
We can talk all we want about what the Redskins are doing, but what on earth are the Broncos doing?
Robert Griffin III fired off a very snarky tweet in response to the reported Case Keenum trade: https://t.co/vx9PMsdy00 pic.twitter.com/lyINIOi64L

This is hilarious. I'm going with Bruce calling Case Keenum ..."Chase McCoy" . https://t.co/FIHEW78pyq

Spare a thought for @MarkBullockNFL who now has to spend his evening going over Case Keenum Broncos tape.

Seems as good a time as any to share this graphic I made for The Post's 2011 Redskins preview, delving into just how many starting QBs the team had trotted out in the quarter century between 1986 (the season after Theismann's career ended) and 2010 (McNabb's one year in DC). pic.twitter.com/AsCbWXDcRf
— Des Bieler (@DesBieler) March 8, 2019
Beyond Super Bowl success and such, there would be nothing better for the Redskins than *winning* with the guy Kirk Cousins replaced in Minny.
— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) March 7, 2019
If the Redskins traded for Josh Rosen (if he’s even available), the Redskins combined cap hits of the 4 QBs would be less than Kirk Cousins’ in Minnesota. Now, u can go ahead and argue about who has it better.
— John Keim (@john_keim) March 8, 2019
Keenum replaced in MIN by guy WSH wouldn't sign long term.
— Paul Conner (@P_ConnerJr) March 7, 2019
Keenum replaced in DEN by guy WSH swears they didn't want.
Weird way to get your guy. And weird value system. #Redskins
If Case Keenum ends up starting for the #Redskins, our projections call for basically no impact, with Washington's playoff chances increasing from 11.8% to 13.2%. pic.twitter.com/KpG2pUlIo5
— SportsLine (@SportsLine) March 7, 2019
.@CraigHoffman reports that #Redskins QB Josh Johnson recently had ankle surgery and is something that will keep him out for "a little bit. @1067theFan @Radiodotcom
— Chris Russell (@Russellmania621) March 8, 2019
If Josh Johnson is on the 2019 Redskins that means (barring the unforeseen) someone got hurt, they waived Colt, didn't draft a young passer or kept 4 on the 53. None of those are good scenarios. https://t.co/RzHIXVhfH6
— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) March 7, 2019

A few points from @john_keim in his inaugural podcast which was well done and informative:
— On The Warpath! (@skins_warpath) March 7, 2019
-Mason Foster and Zach Brown will probably be cut
-Rosen is worth at least a 2nd rounder
-Bram thinks offense next year will not be good (JK eventually brings up Guice tho)
I do think with Mason that he could easily be kept for this reason: See what happens with R. Foster; see if another player becomes available (in FA or draft) that they'd rather have. MFoster is insurance and a guy who can help on 1st-2nd downs https://t.co/ZmFCEDVPG1
