Travis Kelce had ankle surgery but should be ready for training camp, per a new report

A new NFL Network report says the Chiefs’ All-Pro tight end recently had ankle surgery, described as a cleanup.

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce recently had offseason ankle surgery, according to a new report from NFL Network’s Mike Garagolo and Ian Rapoport.

Garafolo’s official tweet on the matter describes the procedure as a “cleanup” and also says that the 29-year-old tight end will miss some if not all of the Chiefs organized team activities.

After catching seven passes for 108 yards in the Chiefs’ divisional round playoff game against the Indianapolis Colts, Kelce was limited to just three catches for 23 yards in the AFC title game. Kelce was not listed on the injury report ahead of that game, and while he could have hurt his ankle then, “cleanup” leads me to believe this was probably a lingering condition.

Given he is entering his seventh year with the Chiefs and head coach Andy Reid, the fact that he will miss offseason workouts shouldn’t scare any fans. Training camp would be a different story, and that makes this a story to follow.

The Chiefs list tight ends David Wells and Deon Yelder behind Kelce on their current roster, with Demetrius Harris set to become an unrestricted free agent in a couple of weeks.

Kelce, a two-time All-Pro, had 103 catches for a franchise-record (tight ends) 1,336 yards and 10 touchdowns this season.
