The Bengals are keeping tabs on one of the top edge defenders in this year’s NFL Draft.
The NFL Draft is less than two weeks away, and the Bengals continue to meet with potential prospects for the No. 11 overall pick.
The latest is Michigan Wolverines defensive end Rashan Gary, who the Bengals met with on Tuesday, per Tom Pelissero.
The Bengals aren’t in dire need of another edge defender, being that Carlos Dunlap, Sam Hubbard, Carl Lawson and Jordan Willis are under contract for several more seasons.
But Lawson is coming off a torn ACL, and Willis has yet to prove to be a reliable pass-rusher in this league. Hubbard also kicks inside occasionally, so it would behoove the Bengals to have another quality edge defender.
Gary is an athletic freak who tested like a 95+ percentile athlete as an edge rusher at the NFL Combine, but his college production left a lot to be desired. At this stage, he’s a good run defender who needs work with his pass-rushing moves, but he’s still projected to go in the first round in the 11-20 range. He went 17th overall to the Giants in our SB Nation Writers’ Mock Draft.
Would you be happy with Gary being the 11th overall pick if that comes to pass?
