Giants finally select an offensive player
The New York Giants selected Auburn wide receiver Darius Slayton on Saturday in Round 5 of the 2019 NFL Draft, 171st overall.
Slayton, 6-foot-1, 190 pounds, ran a 4.39 40-yard dash at the Combine. He averaged 19.1 yards on 35 receptions for Auburn last season, with 5 touchdowns.
In his draft guide, Dane Brugler of The Athletic said:
Slayton has inconsistencies to his game, but he is much more than simply a speed demon, showcasing fluid athleticism and length to make catches outside his framework, projecting as a high-upside developmental receiver.
The Giants took quarterback Daniel Jones at No. 6 overall, then selected five straight defensive players before adding Slayton.
