Retirement may have marked the end of Peppers’ legendary football career, but it hasn’t slowed his humanitarian efforts down in the slightest.
Julius Peppers isn’t preparing for the upcoming football season, and two months after his retirement, that’s still a weird thought for many fans to process. When he announced his retirement, it felt like the world stopped for a few minutes. It’s a pretty cold take to say that he’s one of the greatest Panthers of all time, and he will certainly be missed on the field.
As great as Peppers was on the field, his impact and influence was felt even more off the field. Giving back to the community is the norm for the 2017 Walter Payton Man of the Year finalist. Now that he’s retired, Peppers is doing more important things with even more time on his hands. Peppers recently awarded three charities with $10,000 each.
The three charities are the Center for Community Transitions, the Girl Talk Foundation, and the Young Black Leadership Alliance. Peppers chose these three based on personal preference. “I singled these out because the things they stand for align with my values,” Peppers stated.
Here’s what he had to say about each organization:
The Young Black Leadership Alliance: “The Young Black leadership Alliance, I was inspired by the work they’ve done to prepare young black students for college, exposing them to the world through travel and service and also helping them become leaders in the community.”
The Center of Community Relations: “With the Center for Community Relations, I am someone whose family has been impacted by incarceration, as most of us have been, so I was excited to partner with them and their mission to support families who have had a loved one incarcerated and also assisting people to get them re-acclimated upon their release.”
Girl Talk Foundation: “And last but not least, Girl Talk Foundation and their mission to empower young women, help them become self-confident and build them up to be self-sufficient through character programs – I have supported them in the past. I’ve been a fan for years.”
It’s wonderful to see the Panthers legend continue to make the world a better place. On a concluding note, I’ll leave you with these wise words from Peppers:
“I feel like we all have the responsibility, the obligation to serve and help others. So if you’re not doing the work yourself, try to support someone who is.”
