Particularly the value the Vikings got for some of their selections
With the departure of Mike Mayock to the front office of the Oakland Raiders, Daniel Jeremiah took over as one of the lead analysts of the NFL Network’s coverage of the 2019 NFL Draft. Yesterday, he took a look at some of the players that he thought were the best “value” picks at various positions, and the Minnesota Vikings appear prominently on his tweets on the subject.
Jeremiah went through each position and named some players that went much later in the draft than he had them on his “Big Board.” Here are the ones that name some of the Vikings’ draftees, with some comments afterwards.

Of the twelve players that the Vikings drafted, six of them were deemed by Jeremiah to be among the top values at their positions, with the Vikings drafting them lower. . .and, in some cases, significantly lower. . .than Jeremiah had them ranked.
According to this, the Vikings drafted
- Two of Jeremiah’s top 30 players - Garrett Bradbury, who was at #18 on his final Top 100 list, and Irv Smith Jr.,who was at #29.
- Four of his top 100 - Bradbury, Smith, Dru Samia (#76) and Kris Boyd (#87).
- Six of his top 150 - Bradbury, Smith, Samia, Boyd, Armon Watts (#109) and Olabisi Johnson (#132).
Based on the numbers he tweeted out, Boyd and Johnson are two of the three biggest steals of the entire 2019 NFL Draft. Boyd went a whopping 130 picks below where Jeremiah had him ranked, tying him for the biggest “value” pick that was listed, while Johnson went 115 picks lower than Jeremiah had him ranked.
Again, as we say with most of these sorts of things, this in no way guarantees success for all of the players listed. However, it is a pretty encouraging sign that the Vikings got so many talented players as late as they did in this year’s draft class.
