Half of draft class has now signed rookie deals
Fifth-round picks Ryan Connelly and Darius Slayton have signed their rookie contracts with the New York Giants, meaning the team now has five of its 10 2019 draft picks under contract.
Cornerback Julian Love (Round 4) and seventh-round picks George Asafo-Adjei (offensive tackle) and Chris Slayton (defensive tackle) previously signed.
Connelly is a linebacker and Darius Slayton a wide receiver.
The five draft choices who have yet to sign their contracts are the three first-rounders – Duke quarterback Daniel Jones, Clemson defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence and Georgia cornerback DeAndre Baker – third-round choice Oshane Ximines, an outside linebacker from Old Dominion, and sixth-rounder Corey Ballentine, a cornerback from Washburn.
John Jenkins returns
The Giants also announced that they have re-signed veteran defensive tackle John Jenkins.
A five-year veteran, Jenkins was awarded to the Giants off waivers from the Chicago Bears before last year’s opening game. He played in only seven games, was inactive for nine and had only one quarterback hit for the season. The 6-foot-3, 327-pound Jenkins will be 30 when the season begins.
