Sunday the Raiders wrapped up their rookie minicamp. That three-day camp is as much about getting the team’s rookies on the field as it is about giving opportunities to other undrafted players via a tryout. One of those players trying out for the team was defensive tackle Ronald Ollie who is famous for his part on the Netflix docuseries Last Chance U. He announced Monday he has signed on with the team.

The series followed Ollie in its first season which focuses on the Junior College experience. Ollie attended East Mississippi Community College with designs on getting noticed by 4-year school and earning a football scholarship. The season had a happy ending when in early 2016, Ollie accepting a Division I offer to play at FCS Nicholls State.
Though Ollie thought he might get drafted. it didn’t happen. He was to be signed by the Ravens an a priority undrafted free agent only to have the deal fall through at which point he accepted an invite to Raiders camp.
He is the perfect character fit for the type of players Gruden and Mayock made a priority in the draft. His story is an incredible one which you can read more about here.
To make room on the roster, the Raiders waived offensive tackle Jamar McGloster.
