This time last year Eddy Pineiro was a highly coveted priority undrafted free agent signing by the Raiders. Jon Gruden had to outbid other team to ensure Pineiro came to Oakland, joining is former college holder Johnny Townsend. Now Pineiro is headed to Chicago in a trade according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The trade is for a conditional 7th round pick in 2021. For the Raiders to receive that pick Pineiro must make the Bears roster and be active for five games.

It is about as little compensation as I can possibly imagine, but it’s potentially something for a player who was likely to be cut anyway.
Pineiro was to be the team’s kicker last season until he was lost to an injury in the preseason and placed on injured reserve. After shuffling through a few kickers, the Raiders finally signed Daniel Carlson midseason and the 5th round rookie took ahold of the job and ran away with it.
Carlson was cut by the Vikings three weeks into season after missing three field goals in a game that ended in a tie with the Packers. He came to the Raiders, missed a field goal in his first game and then didn’t miss again the rest of the season, a streak of 15 straight made field goals for a total of 16 of 17.
The only way Pineiro was beating him out was if Carlson got injured, so to get anything for Pineiro in trade is a win.
