Seahawks officially sign Al Woods, release two players

The Seattle Seahawks made a few transactions on Monday that leave the team with one spot open on the 90-man roster.

We’ll first start by noting that they have officially signed defensive tackle Al Woods, formerly of the Indianapolis Colts (among other teams). Woods is 32 years old and is known more as a run-stuffing lineman than a meaningfully disruptive pass rusher. Given he’s essentially a journeyman on a cheap contract worth a reported $2.25 million, you’ll be seeing him competing for a job.

While Woods is incoming talent, two UDFAs are now off the team. Quarterback Taryn Christion and tight end Mik’Quan Deane are now looking for a new job. Christion was among those who took part in Seahawks rookie minicamp recently, and Pete Carroll didn’t really hold back that the QBs weren’t up to standard. Deane used to play at Western Kentucky, the alma mater of George Fant, so there’s only room for one pass-catching beast from Western Kentucky.

The only quarterbacks on the roster for the Seahawks at present are Russell Wilson and Paxton Lynch, although that could soon change if they turn Geno Smith’s visit into a contract.
