That’s right, we already have a 2020 mock draft.
The 2019 NFL Draft just wrapped up, which of course means that it’s time to start thinking about the 2020 NFL Draft.
ESPN’s Todd McShay has already mocked the draft for next year, if for no other reason than just for fun. And with the seventh pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Bengals select CeeDee Lamb, a wide receiver from Oklahoma.
McShay did not randomly slot the Bengals with the seventh pick, as he got the order from Football Outsiders. Here’s what McShay said about the Bengals’ first-round pick:
Jalen Hurts is going to love this talented receiver in that Oklahoma offense, and Cincy wouldn’t mind him, either. Lamb has good, 6-2 size and knows his way to the end zone. He caught 65 balls for 1,158 yards and 11 scores in 2018.
Lamb was second on the Sooners in receiving yards behind Ravens’ 2019 first-round pick Marquise Brown, but he did lead the team in receiving touchdowns. In 27 games over two seasons, Lamb has 111 catches, 1,965 yards (a massive 17.7 yards per catch), and 18 receiving touchdowns. He also made two CFP appearances and helped two quarterbacks to win Heisman Trophies and be selected first-overall in the draft.
The fact that Lamb hasn’t been the teams’ leading receiver in any of his two seasons at Oklahoma shows how much talent was on the team. Without Marquise Brown or Mark Andrews in the offense, 2019 might be Lamb’s year that he blows college football away.
There is no doubt that Lamb could be a good enough player to be worth a top-10 pick. It’s just hard to imagine the Bengals would have room for another first-round receiver, unless they fail to re-sign A.J. Green or Tyler Boyd. Letting either of them go would be a huge mistake for the Bengals, and if they finish worse this upcoming season than they did last season, there will surely be bigger needs in more important areas.
