Jordy Nelson will return to Green Bay in August to retire as a Packer

Nelson will be back this summer in an official Packers capacity one more time.

The Green Bay Packers and Jordy Nelson will have their reunion this summer durin the team’s 2019 training camp. On Monday, Nelson spoke publicly for one of the first times since announcing his retirement from football earlier this spring, revealing his plans for a return to Wisconsin.

Nelson appeared on WIBW in Topeka, Kansas on Monday afternoon’s local news telecast, and revealed that he and the team have been working on plans for his return. That plan involves signing a ceremonial one-day contract, and will take place sometime during the Packers’ training camp in August.

Here is a clip of Nelson’s appearance on the newscast:

The Packers drafted Nelson in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft, and he played for the team for ten years before being released in the 2018 offseason. Nelson then signed a two-year contract with the Oakland Raiders, playing there in 2018 before being released again earlier this spring. He took a few free agent visits to other NFL teams but elected to hang up his cleats instead of continuing to play football.

Nelson finished his career with the fifth-most receiving yards, the third-most receptions, and the second-most receiving touchdowns in Packers history.

Stay tuned to APC for more details on this event as they are announced.
